Via Zoom, Fireside Book Club welcomes you to join in our March discussion of A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. **** Please contact library, by phone or by email, to be included in Zoom meeting.****After more than three decades, the peerless wit
and indulgent absurdity of A Confederacy of Dunces continues to attract new readers. Disappointed at not being able to interest a publisher, John Kennedy Toole committed suicide in 1969 at the age of 32. His mother later presented the book to Walker Percy, getting it published in 1980, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1981. This literary underdog and comic masterpiece has
sold more than two million copies in twenty-three languages. The hero of this story, one Ignatius J. Reilly, is huge, obese, fractious, fastidious. A monument to sloth, rant and contempt, and suspicious of anything
modern. An extravagant satire, this story bursts with original characters from New Orleans lower depths. High and low comic adventures, roaring, rollicking, foot-stomping fun. "The kind of book one wants to keep quoting from."

Library's Presidents Book Club welcomes you to join in our Zoom discussion of
the presidents. This month we are focused on our 32nd president, Franklin D.
Roosevelt. ****Please contact the library, by phone or email, to be
included in the online Zoom discussion, and for further information.**** The Presidents Book Club is designed to acquaint us with our United States presidents and the background history during their terms. We have been reading about each president in order of their service. Participants can access any material on the president they choose: book, qualified website, podcast, documentary. The purpose is to further our knowledge of our history through the lives of the presidents.
Often referred to by his initials FDR, Roosevelt was an
American politician who served as the 32nd president of the United States from
1933 until his death in 1945. He was elected President in
November 1932, to the first of four terms. By March there were 13,000,000
unemployed, and almost every bank was closed. In his first "hundred days," he
proposed, and Congress enacted, a sweeping program to bring recovery to business
and agriculture, relief to the unemployed and to those in danger of losing
farms and homes.
